From Mr. Winge,

Today is Election day. History will be made today. we wanted to emphasize how voting is a privilege that not everyone has. Our very own Mr. Winge experienced something that is pretty amazing, and instead of explain it, I will let him do it through a letter to his students, "On October 20, 2016, after nearly 20 years of living in the United States, I finally was able to take the momentous step of becoming a U.S. citizen. While citizenship carries with it important privileges and responsibilities, to me it is also something that is deeply meaningful in other ways. The United States is exceptional. It is a land of immigrants: the only country where you, as somebody born across an ocean or other border, can be just as much of a citizen as somebody born within. Such exceptionalism, which extends to countless other areas as well, did not happen by accident. As we all know, it was fought for centuries ago and has been defended at great costs in the years since. This fact should serve as a reminder to all citizens, now myself included, that great things can be lost as easily as they can be won. It underscores the fundamental importance of citizenship and taking a role in the political process. Because I deeply believe in this idea, I am proud to say that after becoming a citizen, I immediately took the step of registering to vote. As a teacher who cares deeply about his students, those of you who will yourselves be deciding the future of this country in only a few years, I hope you will all take your own responsibilities of citizenship with pride, honor, and a strong sense of duty. Whether you support the Left or the Right, Democ rats or Republicans, the issues at stake are too important not to get involved. Don't throw away your right. Be thankful for this privilege, and use it to the fullest. I know I certainly will. Proud to join the ranks of my fellow Americans.
