How to Not Stress Out

As BASIS students, you probably have many different daily tasks as well as tests and quizzes to study for throughout the week. If you’re like me, then you tend to freak out about every little detail in your day. It’s important to make sure that you have some ways to destress and unwind at the end of the day. Here are some ways to make sure that you stay calm even on your busiest days.

  1. Organizing what you need to get done- Making a to-do list of all the things you need to accomplish in the order that you have to do them can help you plan out your thoughts. Think about the CJ. If you wanted to plan out your homework throughout the day, then you could highlight your CJ in a list of your priorities. For example, highlight your tests in blue, must-do homework in green, and anything you can do if you have the time in yellow. Organizing yourself makes all of the homework and tasks easier, and you would be able to know exactly what to do and in what order.

  2. Taking a break- Okay, hear me out. I know that as BASIS students, some people feel like walking away from their work, even for a few minutes, seems like an impossible task. However, if you don’t take breaks from your work every once in a while, then all the work that you’re doing is practically worthless. You can’t focus and concentrate when you are overwhelmed, so you won’t be able to retain anything you were trying to learn. Instead, try to take 5 minute breaks at least every hour, and that way you can also track how productive you have been in that last hour. You would also be looking forward to each break, so you would work faster to finish.

  3. Doing some activity to take your mind off of the subject- Playing sports or some musical instrument would help to take your mind off of your schoolwork, and it would help you become more focused on the task immediately at hand. Becoming immersed in something else would let you shut out the work you need to do, but you would be enjoying your time and relaxing for a while.
